My first guest of the New Year, 2025 is Welsh International Darren Williams. He has many caps to his name including being captain and recently manager of the Welsh team.
We chatted about Corrib, including his story of when he caught his best brown of just over 10lb plus a salmon both taken on the fly. Plus he tells of his love of the lakes of Mid Wales, Claerwen and Elan Valley.
Following on from last week's episode, which was the first part of the Christmas Special which included the first half of 2024, this week's episode is part 2 , where I take another selection from all my guests from the second half of this year.
What another great year it's been, a milestone for me achieveing 200 episodes and reaching the four year mark.

This week I chat with Irish angler Darren Duffy from Cork. Even though he lives near the Black Water which has fished it all his life, it's the loughs he prefers to fish. Darren is a talented fly tier and has a feature in this Autumn issue of the Flyfishing Journal, showing his favourite patterns. He talks of the great fish he has had this season on Lough Sheelin and Ree while fishing the spent, plus how fishing the Mayfly nymph is becoming more popular and on its day can be deadly.
After a few recent requests from Patrons, this weeks episode I talk of my top 10 patterns which have brought me success this year and past seasons. Must have flies I couldnt go without, I tell when to fish them, how to fish them and why they are so successful. All variants of known patterns with my own twist. Flies include 4 dries, 3 wets and 3 heavyweight nymphs.
This weeks episode I chat once again with Sean Thomas, one of the most talented fly tyers in the country. I join him on the river Rhymney in South Wales. We chat about our day together and although fishing all day with leaky waders he manages to catch a specimen grayling. He also touches on his fly tying and of his invitation to tie at the BFFI show next year.
This week's episode, I tell the story of a secret lake I found during lockdown. Many years ago I fished with an old fella, Tommy Hayward, he told me when he was a young lad he and his dad carried a bucket with trout which they caught from the river to stock a hidden lake in the mountains. I found this hidden gem of a lake and in this episode I tell the story of my day fishing at Llyn Tommy.
This week's episode, I head to West Wales to chat with Richard Aeron Lougher Jones. Richard has a passion not only for tying fully dressed classic salmon flies he also has one of the largest collection of Victorian salmon flies in the country. The knowledge he has is incredible from the history of patterns, methods, materials, exotic feathers to hand crafted hooks. A true master in his craft.
This week’s episode Ceri gives a guide to fishing traditional wets flies early season for both browns and rainbows. His most productive patterns and where to fish them on the cast, whether top dropper, middle or on the point. Plus which pattern to chose depending on conditions.
This week’s episode Ceri chats with Jackie Mahon, one of Ireland’s leading fly tyers. and a true master in dying, specialising in Irish Lough patterns. He talks about how he got into the art of dying and what is involved in getting the rich Irish colours to his flies. As well as a pro fly tyer he is also a guide on waters around his home in Sligo, including Melvin, Arrow and Glen Car.
This week Ceri chats with Stuart Foxall, who is without doubt one of the leading flytyers in the country and has recently made his passion into a full time profession. His Salmon flies are in high demand from anglers worldwide. He also guides and gives double handed tuition in British Columbia where he has fished for over 14 years. He talks of his trips to Scotland and Alaska and his passion for Atlantic and Pacific Salmon and also steelhead.
